Fundraiser - 24th Feb 2007

Saturday also saw a fundraiser in the city centre in order to raise funds for Peggy's election campaign. Upwards of 350 people attended the event and a very good night was had by all.

Peggy O'Hara was there with her family and people travelled from near and far to support the event.

  • Special thanks must go to Orla and Declan from Belfast who played a taditional set to get the night going. This was much appreciated by the organisors and by Peggy herself.
  • Also to Brian and the boys who made the journey from Dublin especially for the event. They presented Peggy's campaign with a banner which was really impressive and also very much appreciated.
These two acts of solidarity were practical examples of how people 70 or 200 miles away can still help out a campaign.

Whiteline Protest - Derry - 24 Feb 07

Over 100 supporters of Peggy O'Hara took part in a whiteline picket on Saturday to both help promote Peggy's election campaign and to protest against the endorsement of the RUC/PSNI.

Many of those who too part were people under the age of twenty who are flocking to help in Peggy's election campaign. This aspect has been the most pleasing so far for the election team.

Members of the various bodies supporting Peggy including the 32CSM, IRSP, RSYM and the Ex-Prisoners & Concerned Republicans Against the RUC/PSNI also took part and various banners and posters were on display.

Leaflets, which included a personal message from Peggy O'Hara, were handed out on both sides of Shipquay Street and these recieved a particularly favourable response from passers-by.

Launch of the Vote Peggy Blog

Well the election campaign has been going now for a couple of weeks. Everyday we have dozens of election workers on the streets doing tasks such as putting up posters and delivering election literature. Today for example over 100 supporters gathered in the centre of Derry, Shipquay Street to be precise, and handed out literature. They also protested against the acceptance of the PSNI. A lot of young people have come to aid Peggy's election campaign and this was very evident today with many under twenty year olds there.
